Union Cabinet today approved the constitution of a three member Supervisory Committee on the Mullaperiyar Dam to look into the issues about the safety and restoration of the dam. The Committee has been set up in the light of Supreme Court judgment on the issue.
The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi this evening. Talking to reporters after the meeting Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Cabinet also approved the Prime Minister' decision to abolish the all Group of Ministers and Empowered Group of Ministers constituted by the UPA government.
Prasad said that cabinet approved a draft bill to allow a Chairperson or member of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India -TRAI – to make them eligible for further employment under the central government or any state government after relinquishing the post.
He said, the bill will be tabled in the coming session of Parliament .The government has already promulgated an ordinance on this this to appoint former TRAI chairperson Nripendra Mishra as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Minister also said, the dates for convening the Parliament session was also discussed in the meeting but no final decision has been taken.
