Cabinet apprised of progress under National Health Mission

<span style="color: #222222;">The Cabinet on Wednesday was apprised about the progress under National Health Mission, NHM during Financial Year 2020-21 including accelerated decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio, MMR, Infant Mortality Rate, IMR, Under Five Mortality Rate, U5MR and Total Fertility Rate, TFR. It also noted the progress in respect of various diseases programmes like Malaria, Kala-Azar, Dengue, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, Viral Hepatitis etc. The expenditure involved is around 28,000 crore rupees of central share. The NHM is implemented for universal benefit which is the entire population. Services are offered to everyone visiting the public healthcare facilities with a special focus to vulnerable section of the society.<br />''<br />''The Cabinet noted the role of NHM as implementing agency for the Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Package ECRP Phase-I to accelerate health system preparedness for immediate responsiveness for early prevention, detection and management of COVID-19. ECRP-I is a 100 per cent centrally supported intervention and an amount of over Eight thousand 147 crore rupees were allocated to States and UTs for the period upto 31st March 2021.<br />''<br />''Targets under NHM by 2025 is to reduce MMR to 90 from 113, reduce IMR to 23 from 32, reduce U5MR to 23 from 36 and sustain TFR to 2.1. The target is also reduce prevalence of Leprosy to less than one in 10 thousand population and incidence to zero in all districts. Annual Malaria incidence to be less than one in 1000 population, prevent and reduce mortality and morbidity from communicable, non- communicable, injuries and emerging diseases, reduce household out-of-pocket expenditure on total health care expenditure and ending the TB epidemic by 2025 from the country.<br />''<br />''The implementation of NHM in 2020-21 lead to engagement of 2.71 lakh additional Human Resources which includes GDMOs, Specialists, ANMs, Staff Nurses, AYUSH Doctors, Paramedics, AYUSH Paramedics, Programme Management Staff and Public Health Managers on contractual basis.</span><br />

Cabinet apprised of progress under National Health Mission

The Cabinet was apprised of progress under National Health Mission and decisions of Empowered Programme Committee and Mission Steering Group of National Health Mission. Speaking on it, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said, rate of decline of under-5 Mortality rate during National Health Mission period has nearly doubled. <br/><br/>He said, Millennium Development Goal-6 of halting and reversing incidence of Malaria, HIV-AIDS and TB has been achieved. On Maternity Mortality Ratio, he said, with the rate of decline achieved, India would have achieved the target of Millennium Development Goal-5. He said, National Health Mission has been a successful scheme.
