The counting of votes for three Lok Sabha and 33 assembly seats spread over 10 States has begun amid tight security. By-elections in these constituencies were held on Saturday.
Three Lok Sabha seats that went to the polls are Vadodara in Gujarat, Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh and Medak in Telangana. By-polls at Vadodra seat was necessitated after Prime Minister Narendra Modi retained Varanasi and vacated Vadodara.
Bypoll at Mainpuri took place after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav resigned from seat while K Chandrashekhara Rao quit Medak after becoming the Chief Minister of Telangana.
Out of 33 Assembly seats, 11 are in Uttar Pradesh, nine in Gujarat, four in Rajasthan, two in West Bengal, five in North Eastern States and one each in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Micro observers have been deputed at every counting table.
AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that the entire counting process is being video graphed and mobile phones are not allowed inside the counting centres in Uttar Pradesh.
