Bypoll: Voting ends peacefully; 50% voter's turnout recorded in Jalandhar Lok Sabha, 42% in UP's Suar till 5 PM

Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll today witnessed over 50 percent voting. The polling was peaceful.<br />'' <br />''Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Sibin C expressed satisfaction over the peaceful and smooth polling and thanked all the stakeholders.<br />''<b> </b><br />''Meanwhile, Voting for the by-election to the Suar and Chhanbey Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh went off smoothly and peacefully.  The voting percentage was quite low from the last time and only 42% turnout was recorded in Suar till 5 pm which was 17 percent less than the previous election. Around 39 percent of polling was recorded in Chhanbey constituency till 5 pm. On both seats, the partner of the ruling collision Apna Dal (sonelal) is contesting.<br />'' <br />''The Suar seat is witnessing a direct contest between the ruling coalition and the opposition Samajwadi Party. The seat was previously represented by Abdullah Azam Khan, the son of SP stalwart Azam Khan, and was declared vacant in February after a Moradabad court sentenced Abdullah Azam to two years in jail in a 15-year-old case.<br />'' <br />''SP has fielded Anuradha Chauhan as its candidate for the Suar seat while Shafeek Ahmed Ansari is contesting on the ticket of Apna Dal (Sonelal) an ally of BJP.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">On the other hand, the Chhanbey Assembly seat in Mirzapur fell vacant after the death of Apna Dal (Sonelal) MLA Rahul Prakash Kol in February 2023. Apna Dal (Sonelal) has fielded Kol's wife Rinki Kol for the seat whereas Kirti Kol is contesting as a Samajwadi Party candidate. Meanwhile, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to sit out the by-elections in the state.</span>
