In West Bengal, peaceful voting is on for by-elections in Kolkata South Parliamentary constituency. Over 30 per cent voting was recorded till 1 pm.The State Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Sunil Gupta told AIR that some Electronic Voting Machines were replaced in different polling booths due to technical snag. No major untoward incident has so far been reported. AIR Kolkata Correspondent reports that besides State Security personnel, 20 companies of Central Paramilitary forces have been deployed to ensure free and fair voting. Over 15 lakh 60 thousand voters are eligible to cast their franchise. Altogether five candidates are in the fray. They include Mr. Subrata Bakshi of the Trinamool Congress, Mr. Ritabrata Banerjee of the CPI (M) and three other independents. The seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of Ms. Mamata Banerjee from the Lok Sabha after being elected in the West Bengal Assembly. In Haryana, polling is going on peacefully in Adampur and Ratia Assembly constituencies amidst tight security. At Ratia, around 42 per cent polling was recorded till noon whereas in Adampur constituency 35 per cent polling took place.Prominent persons, who cast their votes, include, Member of Parliament Kuldeep Bishnoi, his wife and Haryana Janhit Congress candidate Renuka Bishnoi, Jasma Devi wife of former chief Minister Bhajanlal and Congress candidate Kulbir Beniwal.The counting of votes in both the constituencies will take place on 4th December.Brisk polling has been reported in the bye poll for Umorkote reserved constituency of Nabrangpur district in Odisha today.Casting of votes will continue till four PM. As many as three candidates are in the fray for the Umorkote bye poll. The contestants include Subash Gond of the BJD, Shri Jatindra Gond of congress, Shri Dharmu Gond from the BJP.By poll for this constituency was necessitated after the ruling BJD candidate Shri. Jagabandhu Majhi was shot dead by Maoists.Tight security arrangements have been made in and around Umorkote constituency and the incoming road to the constituency from Chattisgarh has been sealed. As many as 162 polling stations have been set up, of them 70 are sensitive and 67 hyper sensitive ones. The Result of the bye poll would be announced on the 4th of the next month.In Bihar amidst tight security arrangements polling is continuing peacefully for by-elections to Laukaha assembly seat. 35 per cent voting has been recorded till 1 pm.AIR Patna correspondent reports that a large number of voters have come out from their houses to exercise their right of franchise.Polling will continue up to 5 pm. Over 2 lakh 62 thousand electorates will decide the political fortune of 13 candidates including Satish Kumar Sah of Janata Dal ( United) ), Ram Sundar Tarait of Congress and Mukhtar Ahmad of RJD.The Counting of votes will take place on the December 4th. The by-election was necessitated following the death of Minister Hari Prasad Sah.in Himachal Pradesh, polling is going on peacefully in Renuka (reserved) and Nalagarh Assembly constituencies amidst tight security.AIR correspondent reports that despite cold conditions, people are standing outside stations even before voting started at 8 am. Around 40 per cent voters exercised their franchise till 1.00 PM.Polling begins smoothly and there is no report of any delay in starting the poll process. The main contest is between the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on both the seats.The by-elections have been necessitated by the death of former BJP minister and three times MLA HN Saini (Nalagarh) and six times Congress MLA Prem Singh (Renuka).The Congress has fielded Prem Singh's son Vinay Kumar from Renuka against BJP's Hirday Ram. From Nalagarh BJP's candidate is Gurnam Kaur, wife of late Saini, while Lakhwinder Rana is the Congress nominee, who had faced the defeat twice from Nalagarh.Gurnam Kaur and Vinay Kumar are banking on sympathy wave. For the BJP, which is going to complete four years in power next month, the stakes are high in the by-polls, especially in Renuka, which has traditionally been a Congress bastion.Political observers said the election outcome would be an indication of the popularity of the BJP ahead of the 2012 Assembly Elections.A total of 1, 20,253 voters, including 194 electors aged 90 or more, will cast their votes. The counting of votes will be held on December 4.In Karnataka, the by-election to Bellary rural assembly constituency is progressing peacefully. 20 per cent polling was reported till noon. 1.72 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes.The Election Commission has declared 115 of the 192 polling stations in the constituency as hypersensitive.Election is taking place in Mandu assembly seat on Jharkhand in which 22 candidates are in the fray.32 companies of central paramilitary forces and over 120 companies of state armed forces are deployed across 400 polling booths.
