The Assam Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi has appealed to the investors to change their perception on the law and order situation in the North East and come forward to harness the rich natural potential in the region. Defending that the situation at present is most conducive for setting up industries of any magnitude in the region, the Chief Minister said it was wrongly depicted by the various agencies at national level. Mr. Gogoi was addressing the North East Business Summit, being organized by the Indian Chambers of Commerce in Kolkata today. He asked the business tycoons to visit Assam and experience the improved law and order scenario.<br/><br/>While stressing on the development of health, tourism and small-scale industry sectors, the Chief Minister disclosed that the Assam Government has planned to set up five more Five Star hotels in the State.<br/><br/>Referring to the rich mineral deposit and bio diversity of the State, the Chief Minister said that his government has implemented lots of developmental schemes for uplift of the lifestyles of the poor people by concentrating on industrialization in sectors like agriculture, horticulture and water resource. He said the State Government has stressed on improving waterways to reduce the cost of transportation of food processing, tea and oil sector products from the region by about 30 per cent. Mr. Gogoi informed that the Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh has sanctioned five more bridges over the river Brahmaputra with a view to remove the communication gap and boosting the Look East Policy.<br/><br/>The business meet was attended among others by the Union Minister for Development of North East (DoNER) Mr. B K Handique, Union Food Processing Minister Mr.S K Sahay Chairman of Indian Chambers of Commerce Mr. Biswambhar Saran and Chief Ministers of Maghalaya Mr. D D Lapang.
