Several parts of Brazil are under a state of emergency as more than 1,000 bushfires continue to burn across the country. There were more than 10,000 fires and 15 of Brazil's 26 states are now under a state of emergency. Weeks of intense drought in the Amazon basin and neighbouring areas have sparked thousands of fires 1,200 of which are burning out of control. The drought is the worst seen in almost 40 years. The federal government has promised funds to help those affected but it has few resources to fight fires.
