Bus accident on Jammu – Srinagar National Highway kills 4, 30 injured

In Jammu and Kashmir, four persons were killed and 30 others injured in a tragic road accident on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district in the wee hours today.

The private bus which was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar had left Jammu bus stand last evening and after overnight stay at Batote had resumed its onward journey early this morning. But after covering some distance, the bus skidded off the road and rolled down about 100 metres.

AIR correspondent reports that, on receipt of the news about the accident near Nashir about 135 kms from Jammu, police team from nearby police stations rushed to the site of the accident and started rescue operations with the help of local people.

Four bodies were recovered while 30 injured persons are being shifted to District Hospital Ramban. The death toll is likely to rise. Five persons who had got trapped inside the bus were taken out from the badly mangled bus by using cutters .

The bus was carrying about 35 persons mostly labourers from Bihar . Senior Civil and Police officers have reached the accident site.
