Noted rights activist from Pakistan Ansar Burney has appealed to governments of Arab and West Asian countries to release all Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other foreign prisoners who have completed their jail terms but are unable to pay their fines. Mr. Burney said it would be appropriate if the prisoners are released before or during the holy month of Ramzan in the interest of justice, dignity and human rights. Many prisoners from the subcontinent who had completed their jail terms were unable to pay their fines due to extreme poverty. Mr. Burney also requested governments of Arab and West Asian countries and their missions in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to arrange to pay for these fines.
