The Government on Wednesday said Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has granted 630 out of 661 licences to MSME toy manufacturers till 28th of March. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Ashwini Kumar Choubey said safety of Toys is under compulsory BIS certification from 1st January last year. He said accordingly, it is mandatory for Toys to conform to Indian Standards for Safety of Toys and bear the ISI standard mark under a licence from BIS. The Minister said no person shall manufacture, import, distribute, sell, hire, lease, store or exhibit for sale any toys without the ISI mark.
