Burdwan blast: WB police arrests 2 more people; 6 detained in Assam

Two persons arrested in West Bengal while 6 have been detained for questioning in Barpeta district in connection with the Burdwan blast case.

In West Bengal, police today arrested another two persons in connection with the blast at Burdwan district. They were caught from Ketugram of the Burdwan district yesterday. Both the persons will be produced before the court today. With this, six persons have been arrested in connection with the blast so far.

Meanwhile, National Investigating Agency, NIA, will file an FIR today in connection with the recent blast at Burdwan district of West Bengal. The Centre issued notification on NIA probe into the incident in which two persons were killed in an explosion at Kharagarh in Burdwan on the 2nd of this month.

The Union Home Ministry took the decision to hand over the probe considering the international ramification of the case where some Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly involved.

Our Kolkata correspondent reports that West Bengal government earlier initiated CID probe over the incident which faced lot of criticism from different circles including opposition parties. They demanded NIA probe over the whole episode.

In Assam, 6 persons have been detained for questioning in Barpeta district in connection with the Burdwan blast case. Official sources confirmed that all detained persons are being questioned by police.

The Assam government has already sounded a high alert across the state. District administration has been instructed to remain vigilant particularly in border areas.

Our Correspondent reports that a high level committee headed by Inspector General of Police rank officer has already been set up to study the presence and threat of militant groups in Assam.
