Burdwan blast case: NIA arrests Myanmar national from Hyderabad

The National Investigation Agency, NIA, has arrested a suspected Myanmar national from Hyderabad in connection with the Burdwan blast case. Official sources today said Khaleed alias Khalid Mohammed was handed over to the NIA yesterday afternoon after security agencies felt that his role in the blast needed to be probed further.

He had been residing in Hyderabad on the basis of alleged fake documents and was arrested by the state police on Sunday following an intelligence tip-off by central security agencies.

This is the seventh arrest made by NIA in connection with Burdwan blast case of 2nd October in West Bengal. Two persons had died inside a house after the Improvised Explosive Device, IED being manufactured by them went off accidentally.

Khaleed is believed to be an expert in IED. The NIA claimed that he had links with Bangladesh-based terrorist groups. The investigating agency also claimed that he was involved in running terror camps in bordering areas of Bangladesh and Myanmar. A search at his residence led sleuths to his laptop which contained incriminating videos of training material, IED-making, bomb-making, explosives and Jihadi Literature including that relating to ISIS. He was allegedly trained by Pakistan-based terror group Tehrik-i-Taliban.

Meanwhile, visiting Indian National Intelligence Agency team has handed over to Dhaka intelligence agencies a list of Bangladeshi terrorists suspected to be behind the Oct. 2 Burdwan blast, and have sought Dhaka' s help in capturing the suspects. Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam told reporters that both sides are working in a co-ordinated manner so that no terrorist outfit can emerge and carry out organised activity on either side of the border.

Bangladesh Home Ministry has formed a high-powered committee composing high officials from the Ministry and law enforcing and intelligence agencies to liaise with the 4-member NIA team which arrived in Dhaka yesterday to share information about terrorism and seek information about Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)'s network.

The NIA team and the high-power committee set up by the Bangladesh Home Ministry to support the NIA had closed door interactive sessions . Sources say they interacted with Chiefs of RAB, CID and Detective Police. Talking to reporters, Home Secretary Mozammel Haque said that NIA believes that persons of both countries are involved in the Burdwan blast, and Bangladesh is giving all legal support to carry out the probe. He said Bangladesh on its part is seeking certain information from the NIA team including JMB fugitives snatched away in a police car ambush in Mymensingh bordering India in Feb this year. He said both countries are working to weed out terrorism from their respective soils.
