Bullion and jewellery markets remained closed for the eighth day today in various parts of the country. This was in protest against imposition of excise duty on unbranded jewellery and doubling of import duty on gold. Dharnas were also held in Delhi and other places.The All India Sarafa Association has written to Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to save the interest of nearly five lakh small dealers of gold jewellery. President of the Association Sheel ChandJain has written a letter to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee also demanding roll-back of the budgetary proposals. Market sources claimed that the industry has lost business of over 10,000 crore rupees in the last seven days.
