Buddha Purnima, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha is being celebrated on Thursday. The President, Vice President and the Prime Minister greeted the people of the country on this auspicious occasion.<br/> <br/>President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, in her message said that Lord Buddha inspired the people to follow the path of truth, compassion and serve humanity to affirm faith in the eternal values of non-violence and universal brotherhood.<br/> <br/>The Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari in his message said that teachings of Lord Buddha are relevant for emancipating mankind from suffering and to ensure peace and happiness in the world. <br/> <br/>The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that Lord Buddha’s message of non-violence, love, compassion and brotherhood are of eternal significance, and these should be followed. <br/> <br/>Meanwhile, in Bihar the day is being celebrated with religious fervour.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports that the main function is being organized at Bodha Gaya where Lord Budha got enlightenment under the Pipal tree. <br/> <br/>In the Patna ,Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, inaugurated Buddha Smriti Park and planted a sapling of the Mahabodhi banyan tree brought from Sri Lanka on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. <br/> <br/>He was accompanied by Governor Devanand Kunwar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, theTibetan spiritual leader lit a lamp and took part in a religious ceremony before formally inaugurating a state-of-the-art Buddhist religious structure.<br/> <br/>In Meghalaya, the Buddhist community in the state capital shillong is organising the platinum jubilee year of celebration of the shillong Buddhist temple. <br/> <br/>In Jammu and Kashmir, the 2554 Buddha Jayanti – Purnima is being celebrated through out Ladakh with full religious fervour and great enthusiasm.<br/><br/>
