To encourage development of smart cities, the capital and requirement of built up area has been reduced.A sum of Rs 7060 crores has been announced in the budget for developing 100 smart cities. Master planning of three new smart cities – Ponneri in Tamil Nadu, Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Tumkur in Karnataka – in the Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridor region will be completed.
