Budget session of W Bengal Assembly commences with Governor's Address

The Budget session of the West Bengal Assembly began today with the address of the Governor Mr. M K Narayanan. In his speech Mr. Narayanan expressed concern at the security environment in the State which he said has become more difficult during the past year. <br/><br/>Pointing out to the violence of Left Wing Extremists (Maoists) in the West and the separatist movement in the North, the Governor said that intra party clashes have also increased. He said the joint forces of Centre and the State have in the past one year been able to enforce law and order in places like Lalgarh and have arrested more than 450 Maoists including armed squads and recovered huge amount of arms. <br/><br/>The State Government, he said,hs created the police district of Jhargram and posted senior officers to supervise the operations to flush out the Maoists, giving all policemen a risk allowance. The staff strength of all police stations have been increased in the Maoist infested areas and the police station buildings have been enclosed by boundary walls, to make them more secured. <br/><br/>Dwelling on Darjeeling hill issue Mr. Narayanan said, the State Govt. has not accepted the demand of creation of separate State of Gorkhaland but he agreed to enhance the power and function the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) or any other body that could replace the Council. <br/><br/>Touching upon the industrialization in West Bengal the Governor said that and investment of over seven thousands crore rupees is excepted to flow into West Bengal in the field of Engineering, Automobiles, Chemicals, Iron and steel in the current fiscal year.<br/>
