Budget Session of Parliament to begin tomorrow

The Budget Session of Parliament will begin tomorrow. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present Narendra Modi-led NDA government's maiden budget on the 10th of this month. The Economic Survey will be released on the 9th July and the Railway Budget on the 8th. The session, concluding on 14th August, will have 28 sittings.

The government has said it is ready to discuss any issue in Parliament and appealed to the Opposition to cooperate in transacting business in a smooth manner besides maintaining decorum in the House.

AIR correspondent reports, the government braces for its first test in Parliament with the Congress-led Opposition likely to corner it on issues like price rise, hike in rail fares, women safety and communal flareup in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad. Congress may up its confrontation with the ruling BJP to push its case for the post of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Trinamool Congress and Left parties have said they will seek a discussion on inflation, internal security and federalism after the presentation of the Rail and General budgets. The Government will make a statement in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the plight of Indians in strife-torn Iraq. Turing to the common masses, it can be a tightrope walk for the government to try and meet demands for tax sops especially from the middle class and pursue measures for fiscal prudence to spur investment and growth in its budget presentation.
