The Budget session of Delhi Assembly has begun today with the customary address of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.  In his address, Mr Baijal highlighted and appreciated various welfare initiatives for people of all sections by Delhi Government during Corona Pandemic last year. He said, Delhi government together with the Central Government garnered all resources to ensure preventive and curative actions to safeguard the lives of citizens of Delhi. The LG said, Delhi government not only took all necessary measures to contain the spread of corona infection, but scaled-up the all health facilities against it.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Talking about the economic challenges people faced last year, Mr Baijal said, government gave financial assistance to taxi and auto rickshaw drivers and provided free Ration to not only 71 Lakh beneficiaries in April, but helped non ration card holder with ration too. He said, Gross state domestic product of Delhi is estimated to have contracted by 5.68 percent in 2020-21. Highlighting the achievements of Delhi government, LG said, it has been focusing on development of all sectors, including Education, Health, Public transport, Real estate and others.</span><br />

He said, over four thousand classroom libraries have been set up in primary section of government schools for the first time. The Budget Session of Delhi Assembly will begin today. The session will have six sittings and it will conclude on 30th of June. The budget will be presented for the remaining nine months of the current financial year. In March, the Delhi government had presented a vote-on-account in the Assembly for April to June.

Briefing reporters, Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said that the Budget will be presented in the House on Thursday and after the discussion it will be passed.

Besides, five government Bills will also be introduced during the session which includes Delhi Legislative Assembly Members(Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill, 2015 and Delhi Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

Three private member's resolutions have also been listed in the session. In reply to a question on Lokpal Bill, Mr Goel said that the government is working on it.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP has said that it will corner the AAP government during the Assembly budget session over various issues including a former Law Minister's alleged fake degree case and issues related to power and water. Briefing reporters, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition, Vijender Gupta said, the party has prepared a strategy to attack the government by highlighting its ineptness.

He also said, the report of 4th Finance Commission on Delhi Municipal Corporations is pending with the government for a long time and it demands for its early implementation so that necessary resources could be provided to Corporations. He said, BJP MLAs will raise this issue everyday in the Assembly during session.
