BSP workers protest in Lucknow against remarks of Dayashankar Singh against Mayawati

In Uttar Pradesh, enraged by insulting remarks of the then BJP vice president Dayashankar Singh against Mayawati, the BSP workers staged a fierce protest in Lucknow today. Gathered from across the state in thousands of numbers, they burnt effigy of Dayashankar Singh and demanded his immediate arrest. Led by the senior party leaders, the BSP workers and the followers of Mayawati accumulated at Dr BR Ambedkar statue at Hazratganj main crossing of Lucknow throwing city traffic totally out of gear. More from AIR's Lucknow correspondent:-

"Infuriated protesters also tried to march towards BJP state HQs where they had a scuffle with police which prevented them. Such protests are being organised by BSP workers at all the district HQs in the state today.

Meanwhile, initiating action against Dayashankar Singh in response of FIR lodged in Lucknow, the police today reached at his house in Lucknow but he was not found there. Police sources said that his mobile hinted his presence in eastern districts of the state.

ADG law and order Daljit Singh Chaudhary has claimed that Dayashankar Singh will soon be arrested. However, it can be gauged from the mood of the BSP protesters that the issue may not die easily even if the accused is arrested."
