<br/>In Uttar Pradesh, ruling Bahujan Samaj Party has swept the Legislative Council polls from the local bodies’ constituency grabbing 31 out of 33 seats, counting for which were held on Wednesday. Congress has won the Rae Bareli seat while Samajwadi Party candidate has won the Pratapgarh seat. Meanwhile, repolling in five booths of three seats of Aligarh, Meerut and Bulandshahr was held peacefully on Wednesday. Counting of votes in these three seats would be taken up today.<br/>Polling in all the 36 seats was held on 7th of this month. The BSP candidates have won from the seats of Moradabad-Bijnore, Rampur-Bareilly, Badaun, Pilibhit-Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lucknow-Unnao, Sultanpur, Bahraich, Barabanki, Gonda, Faizabad, Basti-Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur-Maharajganj, Deoria, Azamgarh-Mau, Ballia-Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur-Sonbhadra, Banda-Hamirpur, Jhansi-Jalaun-Lalitpur, Kanpur-Fatehpur, Etawah-Farrukhabad, Agra-Ferozabad, and Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur. The BSP candidates have so far won from Allahabad, Lakhimpur Kheri, Badaun, and two seats of the Mathura-Etah-Mainpuri constituencies of the Local Bodies.<br/>In the Upper House that has a total strength of 100, the Samajwadi Party currently has 35 members, followed by 22 of the ruling BSP, 16 of the BJP, three of the Congress and five of the Rashtriya Lok Dal.<br/>While nine are from the teachers’ group, there are six Independents and four seats are lying vacant.<br/>Of the total 100 members in the UP Legislative Council, 38 are elected from the Assembly constituency, 36 from the local bodies constituency, eight each from the teachers and graduate constituencies while 10 are nominated by the Governor on the advice of the Chief Minister.<br/>
