The public sector telecommunication service provider BSNL will put up 2500 towers in 10 states facing the challenge of extremism, to improve the communication network in these areas. Speaking in a session during the BRICS Communication ministers' second meet in Bengaluru today, the Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL Anupam Srivastava informed that BSNL will provide 40,000 wi-fi access points at 15000 sites in all the small and big cities within one year. He said BSNL has been entrusted with the task of bridging digital divide in the country, for which over one lakh Gram Panchayats will be provided wireless broadband services by next year. <br/><br/>Speaking about challenges of implementing 4G services that involves exorbitant cost, he said wireless internet medium is opted instead of expensive Spectrum broadband route. He said 3000 wi-fi hotspots installed by BSNL in major tourist places has elicited good response.
