BSF foils in infiltration bid in Jammu; 4 rockets fired from across the border near Attari

In Jammu and Kashmir security forces foiled an infiltration bid from across the border in Akhnoor subsector of Jammu region today.

AIR correspondent Yogesh reports from Jammu that around 0300 hrs, the troops of Border Security Forces (BSF) observing some movement near the Sidharwal border outpost of Pargwal area along the Indo-Pak International Border, challenged the intruders who opened fire on the troops.

The BSF personnel retaliated the firing. After heavy exchange of fire from both the sides that lasted for half an hour, the troops ultimately succeeded in pushing back the infiltrators, whose number could not be ascertained due to intense fog in the area. A massive search operation has been launched by the BSF in the area as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, Security personnel had a narrow escape when two of the four rockets fired from Pakistani side fell close to their post near the Attari border but did not explode, drawing retaliation from the BSF. A BSF official said that while two rockets landed in an agricultural field in the border villages around Attari border last night, the rest two failed to explode.

No casualty has been reported. According to officials, the BSF troops present during night duty opened retaliatory fire. Immediately after the incident, BSF held flag meeting at around 3.00 AM with Pakistani counterparts who denied any firing from their side.

Officials said that due to dense fog, BSF personnel were finding it difficult to locate the exact location where the two rockets fell and exploded in agriculture fields. They said that the two rockets which did not explode after falling on Indian Territory were traced at Kahangarh post where 35 BSF personnel were on duty.
