The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 154 points, or 0.9 per cent cent, to 17,976 in early trade today on fresh capital inflows from foreign funds, amid firm global markets. But the Sensex later surrendered all of its initial gains, and stood 4 points in the red, at, 17,818, a short while ago. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and Taiwan were up by between 0.3 percent and 1 percent, today, as China's economic growth accelerated and US financial firms reported strong results. The US Dow Jones Industrial average gained 0.9 per cent, overnight.
