BSE Sensex down by 169 pts

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 88 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 20,252, in opening trade, this morning, as investors booked profits amid a weak trend in the Asian region. But poor industrial growth data later led to the Sensex losing further ground. So after plunging as much as 225 points in late morning trade, the Sensex stood 169 points, or 0.8 per cent in the red, at 20,171, a short while ago. Key stock indices in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan were down by between 0.2 per cent and 1.8 per cent.
