BSE Sensex comes down from initial gains

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 131 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 17,330, in opening trade on Wednesday morning amid firm global cues. But the Sensex later surrendered all its initial gains and stood 27 points, or 0.2 per cent in the red, at 17,171, a short while ago. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange lost 2 points, at 5,120.Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 1.2 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei index gained 0.4 per cent, on Wednesday. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 1.2 per cent higher, overnight.
