The Border Roads Organisation has planned to construct all-weather roads to link Jammu and Kashmir with Ladakh and other areas in the State which are not accessible throughout the year. Defence Minister A.K. Antony gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. He said at present there are two roads connecting Jammu and Kashmir with Ladakh and other areas. Both the roads are being developed into double-lane highways. To make these roads accessible throughout the year, tunnels are to be built. On the Manali-Darcha-Sarchu-Leh road, one tunnel is under construction at Rohtang in Himachal Pradesh. It will be completed in February 2015. Further on this road beyond Darcha, there is another alignment leading to Leh. Another road from Darcha to Leh via Shinkhunla-Padam-Nimu is being developed under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Antony said.
