Security officials in Britain have ordered the police to step up preparations for possible attacks by militants in crowded public places. The measures include giving armed police more powerful weapons and training police marksmen alongside army special forces. The move follows intelligence warnings of an Al-Qaeda plot to stage coordinated attacks in Europe along the lines of assault by gunmen on the Indian city of Mumbai two years ago.
