The most wanted man in Britain has shot himself dead. In a statement, British police today confirmed that Raoul Thomas Moat, 37, of Newcastle, died after a six-hour standoff with armed police in Rothbury in northern island. <br/><br/>They said no officers or members of the public were injured during the stand off. Moat had spent his last hours yelling at a police negotiator last evening. It had taken eight days to track him down and police said Moat had been hiding in a newly-built but drought-hit drainage system. <br/><br/>The massive manhunt involved police officers from 15 forces, Scotland Yard snipers, armoured cars and even an Royal Air Force Tornado used to map the search from the air. <br/><br/>After his release from Jail on July 1, Moat indulged himself in shooting spree killing his girl friend and later critically injuring a police officer in another incident. He also declared war against police by claiming himself to be a killer and a maniac and pledged to keep shooting until his death.
