Britain to cut defence spending

Britain is planning to scrap its flagship aircraft carrier and its fleet of fighter jets along with other spending cuts aimed at eliminating nearly half a million public sector jobs by 2015. Prime Minister David Cameroon announced the cuts yesterday. Under the plan, the British army will be cut by seven thousand troops and navy and air force will lose five thousand personnel over the next four years. A spending review to be announced in full today will call on most government agencies to cut budgets by 25 per cent over four years.
