Britain today asked Pakistan to do more to tackle the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror network operating along its border with India and rein in the Taliban militants on its Afghan frontier.

British High Commissioner to India Richard Stagg told reporters in New Delhi that Pakistan had made significant progress last year in tackling insurgency in the Swat valley and South Waziristan, but it should address other sources of instability and violence. He noted that the LeT terror networks were linked to the 26/11 Mumbai attack and are a threat to the world community.

Britain believed more needed to be done on these counts and it has conveyed its opinion to the Pakistani authorities, he said. Stagg's remarks come just days after US Defence Secretary Robert Gates warned that another attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba in league with al-Qaeda could trigger an Indo-Pak armed confrontation and destabilise the region.
