Brisk, peaceful assembly polling on in Nagaland & Meghalaya

In Nagaland, 42 per cent polling has been reported across the state to elect 59 members of the 60-member state assembly today. Election in one Assembly segment has been postponed due to the death of a candidate. According to State Election Department reports, no major untoward incident reported from any part of the state so far. AIR correspondent reports that polling will end at four this afternoon.

In the Meghalaya Assembly elections , 53 percent polling has been reported till 1 PM. AIR correspondent reports, no untoward incident has been reported so far.
Meanwhile heavy turnout of female voters was seen in various polling stations in East Khasi Hills district. Security forces have been put on high alert and heavy security presence was seen at all the polling stations especially in those classified as hyper sensitive. According to the chief electoral officer, over 50, 000 are first time voters in the age group of 18-19.
