Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi said that bringing down inflation is still a big challenge and though the food prices have come down in the last few weeks there is a need to bring them down further. She emphasised that curbing inflation is as much of a responsibility of the centre as much of the states. Addressing the AICC session in New Delhi yesterday ,Mrs. Sonia Gandhi said that galloping stock market and rising investments do not convey the real problems that common people face in day-to-day lives as inflation continues to be a “challenge”.Launching a blistering attack on the RSS and its sister organisations, the Congress President said that the party will forcefully resist all attempts to polarise the society on the lines of religion. She said that the fight against communalism of all kinds and fanaticism of all types has to continue unabated. She made it eloquently clear that the judgement on the Ramjanam Bhoomi- Babri Masjid title suit in no way condones the demolition of the disputed structure. She said this was shameful and a criminal act for which the perpetrators must be brought to justice.Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the focus of the policies of the Congress party has always been the 'Aam Admi'. He said government wants that the benefits of the economic growth should reach every section of the society. He appealed to the Congressmen to work towards bringing the party closer to the Aam Admi. Strongly endorsing the economic policies of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the poor have to be empowered to become the driving force to take the country forward. Rahul Gandhi emphasized said, this is possible only through economic growth. The statement adopted at the AICC session, Congress party resolved to fight against all forces that spread religious hatred, and polarize people on communal lines. On inflation, it has called on the government to redouble its efforts to ensure that prices of essential commodities remain at affordable levels. On Jammu and Kashmir it saidthat that normalcy is now being restored and the appointment of the interlocutors to carry forward the process of dialogue with stake holders is a welcome measure. On left wing extremism, it says that armed struggle against the state by any section of society cannot be tolerated but also called upon the government to undertake time bound implementation of the integrated Action plan for these tribals and backward areas. It has stressed the need for having a pro active approach to ensure that the benefits of the flagship programmes of the government reach the Aam Aadmi specially the weaker sections.
