BRICS summit to be held in Goa on 15th, 16th of Oct

The BRICS summit will be held in Goa on 15th and 16th of this month. Issues of terrorism and increasing intra-BRICS trade will be the focus of the discussion among the leaders of the BRICS countries.<br/><br/>BIMSTEC outreach summit will also be held in Goa around the same time where heads of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand and China will discuss and deliberate on the ways to further expand cooperation in key areas of mutual interest. <br/><br/>Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, Secretary (Economic Relations) Amar Sinha said, the two summits will help build people to people contacts. <br/><br/>During the BRICS Summit, restricted meetings between the Heads of the participating countries will also be held. Leaders will also meet business council members followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address in the Summit. Mr Modi will also chair BIMSTEC outreach Summit. <br/><br/>Secretary (East) Preeti Saran told reporters that India considers BIMSTEC as an important grouping as it helps to connect with the South East Asian region as part of its Act East policy. Replying to media query on expansion of BRICS, Mr Sinha said there are no such plans. <br/><br/>Asked whether India's membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group will figure in the discussion between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Sinha said, the issue is nit related to the BRICS and it is being discussed at a different forum.
