Brazil, S Africa, India, China agree to communicate their emission cut target

<br/>BASIC countries comprising Brazil, South Africa, India and China have agreed to communicate to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC, their emission cut targets by the 31st of January. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters after the meeting, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the BASIC countries in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Mr Ramesh said the meeting urged developed nations to come forward and provide 10 billion US dollars as promised by them to address the concerns of the least developed and developing nations so that they could take mitigation commitments on a war footing.<br/><br/>Mr. Ramesh said the environment ministers will be meeting quarterly and that there will be at least six meetings of BASIC groups, before the Mexico meet in December.<br/>
