Brazil defeats Germany, wins first Olympic soccer gold

In Men's Football, Hosts Brazil have beaten Germany to bag their Olympic Football gold for the first time in its history. The pulsating Final ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time. In the shoot out, Brazil defeated Germany 5-4. Neymar Jr. led Brazilian team to its glory as they took the semi final revenge from 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the hosts were beaten by Germany 7-1. In Athletics on the penultimate day of Rio Olympics, Briton Mo Farah defended the double gold he earned at London 2012 to remain the Olympic champion in the men's 5000 and 10,000 meters. The middle-distance runner won the 5000 meters in 13 minutes, 3.03 seconds by pushing a blistering pace on the final lap to hold off Ethiopia's Hagos Gebrhiwet and American Bernard Lagat, who took silver and bronze.South African Athlete Caster Semenya has won the Gold in 800 meters. She was considered favourite for the event. Caster had won the Silver in London Olympics after a gender testing controversy had followed her.In 4×400 meters relay, the US men's and women's team kept the Jamaican team at bay to win the Gold in both sections.In badminton, Malaysia's world number one player Lee Chong Wei again suffered a heartbreak at the Olympics as he settled for a Silver medal in Rio last evening. This was his third consecutive second place finish at the Games. Having been beaten by China's Lin Dan in the last two Olympics in the Final, Lee, this time, lost to world number two Chen Long, also of China, in straight games, 19-21, 18-21. This was Chen's first Olympic Gold. He had won a Bronze in the last edition of the Games in London.In Golf, India's teen sensation Aditi Ashok finished 41st in the Individual event. Gold went to South Korea's Inbee Park. Lydia Ko of New Zealand took the Silver, while China's Shanshan Feng settled for a Bronze.Today on the final day of the Games, London Games Bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt will be vying for top honours in the 65 kg weight class. He will take on Ganzorigiin Mandakhnaran of Mongolia in the Qualifications. Yogeshwar is widely expected to clinch one last medal for India at the Games.In Men's Marathon, Thonnakkal Gopi, Kheta Ram and Nitendra Singh Rawat will be seen in action.
