Oil Company BP says it has for the first time stopped the torrent of oil which has been leaking in the Gulf of Mexico. BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles warned that it was not time yet to celebrate. A new 75-tonne cap has cut off the oil flow during the early stages of a pressure test. In the words of the company, "the well is shut in". After around 48 hours of test, BP will decide what to do next.President Obama has described as a positive sign BP's statement that oil has, at least temporarily, stopped leaking into the Gulf of Mexico from the Deepwater Horizon well site.
