Teen Indian boxer Shiva Thapa entered the semifinals of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Kazakhstan. At Astana today, 18-year old Shiva stunned former Olympic silver-medallist Worapoj Petchkoom, 16-10, to qualify for the last four stage. The Indian is now just one win away from booking a berth for the London Games. Shiva will now face Japan's Satoshi Simizu, who beat Myong Il Kim of North Korea 23-10, for a place in the finalson Wednesday after a rest day tomorrow.A win in the next round will assure him of a place in the London Olympics as well. But in case Shiva loses in the semi-finals, he will have to pray for a gold for his rival as only the semifinalist who is defeated by the eventual champion will get the London ticket.Yesterday, Vijender Singh qualified for the London Olympics in the 75 kg category while participating in the Asian Olympic qualifier, at the same venue. Vijender reached the semifinals after defeating Chuluntumur Tumurkhuyag of Mangolia in the quarterfinals. The semifinal clash between Vijender and Nusrat Pajiyev of Turkamenistan will take place on Wednesday.Besides Vijender, four other Indian boxers, L. Debendra Singh, Vikash Krishna, Manoj Kumar and Jaibhagwan, have so far qualified for the London Olympics.
