Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the 8th working day in a row as the standoff between the government and the opposition over the demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum continues. The issue which again rocked both the houses of Parliament, led to their adjournments, first till noon and then till tomorrow after laying of papers. Our Correspondent says that although two meetings of all party's were held in a week's time to break the logjam, the issue remains unresolved. The opposition has also rejected the government proposal of a multi-disciplinary investigative agency along with the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to go into the issue of 2G spectrum. Describing the opposition demand for a JPC probe as unjustified, the Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed blamed the opposition parties for stalling the functioning of Parliament. He said it was the collective responsibility of both the government and the opposition to run Parliament smoothly. Making an appeal to the opposition to allow both the houses to run, he said the government is ready for discussion on any subject. Meanwhile, leaders of the non-BJP and non-UPA parties have urged the government to end the impasse in Parliament by constituting a JPC to probe the 2G spectrum scam. Speaking to media after a meeting in New Delhi today, Mr. Sitaram Yechury of the CPIM said that apart from identifying and nailing the guilty and how such a massive scam could be manipulated and to suggest reforms and regulations for the future including new legislations if necessary. He said these two objectives can be achieved only by a JPC and not by any parliamentary panel like the Public Accounts Committee.
