Both the Houses of Parliament will have special sittings on Sunday, May 13th, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first sitting of Parliament on this day in 1952. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will begin their proceedings at 11.00 a.m. There will be no legislative business.
The two Houses will deliberate on the theme “60 years’ journey of the Parliament of India”. Later in the day, President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will address the Members of the two Houses in the Central Hall. Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will also address the distinguished gathering.
Two surviving members from the first Lok Sabha of 1952-57, Mr.Rishang Keishing and Mr. Resham Lal Jangde will be felicitated on the occasion. The President will release 5 rupee and 10 rupee coins. She will also release some publications of Secretariats of both the Houses to mark the occasion.
