Both the houses of the Maharashtra Legislature today discussed the issue of Mantralaya fire. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan admitted that the state government was not well prepared to tackle the fire. The Chief Minister admitted that fire audit report of 2008 was not properly implemented. He, however, commended the fire brigade officials for their work. Taking serious note of female foeticide cases in Maharashtra, the state government would seek the Centre's opinion for slapping charge of homicide on those involved in such offences. Replying to a debate on the issue of female foeticide, Maharashtra ‘s Health Minister Suresh Shetty told the Legislative Assembly that in order to put off forced abortions of female foetus, the government will soon send its suggestion of applying section 320 of IPC related to homicide. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told the Assembly that the government has granted a 2.5 FSI for a housing complex for Mathadi workers in Mumbai. Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil told the Assembly that in order to control and punish anti-social activities across the state, installation of CCTVs in lodges, will be made mandatory. He was replying to the debate on the issue of a sex scandal in Nashik district. In the Maharashtra Legislative Council, state Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope said that the government is planning to make caste certificate obligatory at the school education level.
