The sugar cane issue once again rocked the Parliament leading to the adjournment of both the Houses for the day. The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the second day on the issue twice after laying the papers while the Rajya Sabha was adjourned thrice. The trouble started in both the Houses right from the moment they assembled for the day with the unrelenting opposition members raising pitch on the sugar cane price issue. They wanted suspension of the question hour which was not agreed to by the Presiding officer of both the Houses. This led to the opposition members rushing to the well of the House shouting slogans.AIR Parliamentary correspondent reports that the government has convened a meeting of all political parties on Monday to discuss the issue.Govt. agrees to delete controversial clause 3B in the ordinance on sugarcane pricingThe stalemate over the sugarcane pricing issue between the government and the opposition in Parliament is over with the Government agreeing to delete the controversial clause 3B in the ordinance. The Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mr V Narayansamy told reporters after an all party meeting in Parliament complex that government has decided to restore the old pricing structure for sugar cane.Talking to reporters after the meeting, RLD leader, Mr.Ajit Singh who spearheaded the farmers agitation said that now the difference of price between the FRP and State Advisory Price will be paid by the Mill owners. Earlier, the ordinance clause had put the onus on the state governments to pay the difference.Deputy leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Mrs Sushma Swaraj said that the credit for repealing the controversial clause and restoring the old price structure goes to the farmer’s agitation.Railway Minister and Leader of Trinamool Congress Ms Mamta Banerjee said that the decision has been taken in the interest of the farmers following thorough discussion among the UPA partners.
