Farmers agitation and police action against them in Uttar Pradesh today rocked both houses of parliament. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha which witnessed Pandemonium over the issue were adjourned three times each and finally for the day .In the Lok Sabha, members from several political parties including Samajwadi Party, BJP, JD(U) and RLD were up on their feet as soon as the House assembled for the day.Many of them trooped into the well of the house shouting slogans against firing on the farmers in Uttar Pradesh who have been demanding enhanced compensation for their land acquired for Yamuna Expressway linking Noida and Agra.As pandemonium continued, the Speaker, Mrs. Meira Kumar adjourned the house till noon. The situation was no different when the House reassembled at 12 O clock . But there was no let up in the situation as tempers ran high and after laying of papers and introduction of a bill amidst noisy scenes the house had to be adjourned till 2pm . Same situation prevailed after the met at 2 P.M. and the House was adjourned for the day.In Rajya Sabha the leader of the Opposition Mr Arun Jaitley wanted to raise the issue as soon as the house met for the day but BSP members protested . However the question hour continued. But after that there was uproar leading to the adjournment of house for 15 minutes and then till 2 P.M and finally for the day as there was no change in the situation.Earlier, speaking to newsmen outside Parliament, the senior BJP leader Mr Rajnath Singh said that he had given a notice for the suspension of the question hour in Lok Sabha for raising the issue. He supported the demand of the farmers of Aligarh and Mathura to get enhanced compensation at par with their counterparts in Greater Noida.Stating that judicial inquiry into yesterday's firing incident will take a long time to complete, Mr Singh demanded that action should be taken against those who are prima facie involved. He said that the government should bring the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill to ensure adequate compensation to farmers, whose land is acquired by the government.The CPIM leader, Mr Sitaram Yechury also favoured the need for bringing an amendment in the Land Acquisition Act saying that the existing law is not in tune with the present situation.Mr Manish Tiwari of the Congress said the UPA government is sensitive to the interests of the farmers on the issue of land acquisition. He criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for ordering firing on the farmers. His party colleague, Mr. Jagadambika Pal held the Mayawati government responsible for what happened yesterday.BSP's Satish Chandra Mishra said that their government in Uttar Pradesh has already ordered a judicial enquiry and has also set up a Committee to negotiate the compensation package with the agitating farmers.
