Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has said the government and the opposition should continue efforts to break the deadlock in Parliament till a solution to the oppositions demand for a JPC probe into the 2G Spectrum scam is found. She told this to reporters after an all-party meeting convened by her. The meeting failed to break the 13-day standoff between the government and the Opposition over the issue. Speaking to reporters, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said the meeting has not led to any solution. He said the government will not accept the demand for the JPC probe into 2 G Spectrum controvery as the demand is politically motivated and not intended to get to the bottom of the issue. He also ruled out adjourning the both the houses sine die before the schedule. Mr Bansal said there is a need to work towards strengthening the level of trust between the government and the opposition. Opposition parties, however, rejected outright the government's suggestion for a probe monitored by Supreme Court into the 2G spectrum. Opposition leaders, who attended the all party meeting also made it clear that they will not accept anything less than JPC. Talking to reporters, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the Opposition is willing to sit late to complete the business in Parliament if the government announces JPC. CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta held the government responsible for the standoff. Justifying the opposition demand, he said JPC is much better and effective parliamentary practice. air Correspondent reports that over 77 MPs belonging to non-BJP and Non-UPA parties presented a memorandum to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, urging her to direct the government to set up JPC.
