Both Congress & BJP violated Foreign Funding norms: rules Delhi HC; asks Home Ministry & EC to take action

The Delhi High Court has said that funds received by Congress and BJP from UK-based Vedanta Resources' subsidiaries violate Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.

A division bench of justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Jayant Nath directed the Home Ministry and the Election Commission to take appropriate action against the two parties within six months.

The court was hearing a PIL field by an NGO. The petitioner claimed that the Home Ministry, in its reply, admitted that fundings came to these parties from Vedanta. The petition alleged that Vedanta Resources and its subsidiary companies in India, including Sterlite Industries, Sesa Goa and Malco, have donated several crores of rupees to major political parties such as Congress and the BJP. The PIL sought a court-monitored investigation by the Special Investigation Team or the CBI into the violation of foreign funding and other laws by major political parties, corporate groups and PSUs.

Reacting to the order, Aam Aadmi Party said it is now clear that both Congress and BJP received black money and foreign funds.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, AAP leader, Prashant Bhushan alleged that the two parties have given undue favours to a foreign company in exchange of money. He said, the parties have been continuously accusing the AAP of taking foreign funds but the government has not found a single penny during the last two years.
