Indefinite curfew has been clamped in the entire Golaghat district of Assam this morning.
Earlier, curfew was imposed at Golaghat town and Rongajan area yesterday. Home Commissioner G D Tripathi said this step has been taken as a precautionary measure.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has announced a judicial inquiry by a retired judge of the High Court into yesterday’s police firing in Golaghat district.
Assam and Nagaland Chief Ministers will hold talks today on the border issue in Guwahati. Meanwhile, BJP MPs Bijoya Chakravarty and Ramen Deka have alleged that the state government has failed to play a proactive role in defusing the tension on the Assam-Nagaland border.
Ms Chakravarty said that the Centre will take all steps to restore peace. Several organizations have called for a 12 hour Assam bandh today protesting against the Golaghat incident.
