Bopanna-Mergea advanced to quarter-final in US Open Series

Fifth seeded Indo-Romanian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea advanced to the men's doubles quarter-final in the Western and Southern Open Challenger, US Open Series. In the third round match, Bopanna-Mergea reorganised their strategy after losing the first set to the French combination of Pierre-Huges Herbert and Nicolas Mahut. Bopanna-Mergea laboured to win the second set which into tie-breaker and in the match tie-breaker. The second round encounter lasted one hour and 26 minutes before Bopanna-Mergea emerged victorious by 1-6 7-6(5) 13-11.Bopanna-Mergea saved five of eight break points and won one of six break points. The French duo 15 of 22 break points and won three of eight break points.The Indo-Romanian pair secured 69 total points out of 147 while their rivals got 78 out of 147. Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea are now scheduled to meet second seeded Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcelo Melo of Brazil who prevailed over Wild Card American pair of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey 7-6(4) 7-6(4).
