Haryana Minister of State for Home Gopal Kanda resigned last night after Delhi Police booked him for abetment to suicide. 23-year-old former air hostess Geetika Sharma, who committed suicide in Delhi on Saturday, blamed Kanda for taking the extreme step.
In her suicide note, Geetika accusing Kanda of harassing her even after she left the Haryana minister's company MDLR. A senior Delhi police official said, it is alleged that Kanda was pressuring Geetika to rejoin his firm, which she had left recently to pursue MBA.
Denying having any direct links with the suicide victim, Kanda said he is a victim of conspiracy. Talking to media persons at his residence in Gurgaon, Kanda said, he has resigned to ensure an impartial probe into the incident. 46-year-old Kanda is an independent MLA from Sirsa.
Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath has sought a report from the National Commission for Women on the Geetika's suicide. Mrs Tirath said, she will take suitable action on the basis the NCW report.
