Union Minister for state in the Prime Minister’s office V Narayanasamy has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to arrest those spearheading the anti-Kundankulam nuclear power project.
Speaking to newsmen in Chennai today, he said 156 cases have been filed against the protestors on various charges, including preventing entry of scientists into the plant.
He said cases had been filed against 4 NGO’s for diverting funds and enquiry is on to find out whether the diverted money had been utilized to fuel the anti- nuclear protests in Kundankulam.
He said the two committees constituted by the Centre and state governments had said that the safety mechanism in place at the plant is of the highest international standard.
Naryanasamy expressed the hope that the plant would be commissioned soon, with the co-operation of the State Government. He said taking into consideration the acute power crisis in the state, the centre has decided to enhance the quantum of power to be given to Tamil Nadu from the Kundankulam plant to 1,000 Mw.
