The Bombay High Court has initiated a judicial inquiry into the Malad building collapse incident, which claimed 12 lives. Observing that there was absolute lawlessness in various municipal wards of Mumbai, a bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G. S. Kulkarni has directed the Inquiry Commissioner to submit its preliminary report by 24th of June.<br />'' <br />'' Noting that 24 people have lost their lives in the past one month due to incidents of building collapse, the court said, those in-charge of concerned municipal wards must be held accountable. The court said, there was no will among civic officials to check the instances of illegal construction or to demolish illegal structures.<br />'' <br />'' Shocked by this man-made disaster, the court asked the civic body why such an incident cannot be prevented. The bench was presiding over a PIL that it had initiated suo motu last year following an incident of building collapse at Bhiwandi in Thane district.<br />''  <br />
