Bombay HC grants BJP's Kirit Somaiya protection from arrest in INS Vikrant funds case

Mumbai-based Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya has been given interim protection from arrest by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday in alleged cheating case of swindling of funds collected upto the tune of 57 crore rupees for restoration of Indian Navy's first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. Providing relief to Somayya, the High Court observed that the FIR indicates that allegations are mainly based on media reports. Though there are specific allegations of misappropriation of 57 crore rupees, there is no material on record to indicate on what basis the complainant has arrived to the said figure.
''
''A single-judge bench of Justice Anuja Prabhudessai prima facie observed that the complaint had been lodged in the year 2022 for money allegedly collected in 2013. However, the court has asked Somayya to cooperate in the probe. The High Court will hear Somaiya's pre-arrest bail plea after two weeks on 28th of April.
